Brake upgrade
Brake upgrade

Has anyone changed the 4 lug brakes to the 5 lug bigger brakes on a 86 RX-7? If so what all did you need to change? Spindles, rotors, hubs, calipers, master cyl, any or all of these parts? I just got a 86 that I am going to put a 400 small block chevy in and would like to put the bigger brakes on it off of a GXL or Turbo II from a salvage yard but was wondering how much stuff I need to get.
Thanks

I did this conversion on my 86 and here is what is needed:
5 lug hubs (front and rear)
new front inner and outer bearings and grease seals
new rear press in style bearing
front calipers (preferably the 4 piston turbo calipers)
front brake pads (to match the calipers)
Front brake rotors (to math the caliper/pads)
Rear calipers (preferably the turbo calipers for VENTED rear rotors)
rear pads to match the rear calipers
rear rotors to match the calipers and pads
in the front you will need the stock 4" brake line that connects the rubber hose to the caliper
LEFT OEM PART NUMBER: FB05-43-720B
RIGHT OEM PART NUMBER: FB05-43-710B
Next step IMO would be to buy SS brake lines to replace the stock rubber hoses.
You DON'T have to change the brake master cylinder or brake booster
Good luck on the swap. It was fairly easy to do and the cost is not that bad.
